Lunchtime Boost

I had lunch with Ellie Swoop in our favourite café (again I hear you say – yes we do have a lot of lunches). As usual we put the world to rights, whilst enjoying a skinny latte and delicious food. Today I had carrot soup and Ellie had scrambled egg on toast.

Ellie and I were pondering what the name for a male harem would be (not that she’s got one you understand or at least not since she recently declared exclusivity!) We discussed lots of writing things, including our visit to the office (Sainsbury’s café) tomorrow morning. We are going to get much more serious about editing our novels. We brainstormed my blog and the sort of subjects I could cover over the next few weeks. Ellie is an ideas person, so it was really useful. Hopefully you can enjoy the fruits of our deliberations shortly.

The café has a second hand bookshelf with proceeds going to charity and of course I came home with three titles; Charlotte Bingham’s Daughters of Eden, Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes (which is recommended for my course) and Zoe Heller’s The Believers.

I wanted to get out this lunchtime as I was feeling strange. Hubbie has been home for a while and I’ve got used to having him around, but he started a new deal in Paris today. He’ll be working Monday to Friday in France for a while and once I settle down this will mean more writing time, but for now I am just missing him.

  1. I loved that Zoe Heller book, but I haven't read the other two. Our local Homebase also has a charity bookshelf. It's a great idea, though I've never yet found anything there I want to read.

    Hope you're not too lonesome!

  3. Oh I wish I had a writing buddy I could go to lunch with and discuss all things writery. I find it hard to talk to people who don't actually write. (I also worry I sound pretentious when I say I'm working on my novel lol!) I'm not sure they truly understand.

    Lucky you!

I think you need to get stuck into your novel that needs editing, then you won't feel so lonely. You'll have lots of characters buzzing around your head, talking to you, you'll be glad of the peace and quiet.

  4. Hi Girls,

I feel guilty now buying books cheaply as I know the authors don't get anything. Having said that some of the books I have liked from charity stalls have prompted me to buy a load more from the same author.

Yes, Teresa, I am very lucky having Ellie. We were friends before we started writing and both got the bug at the same time. I know what you mean about saying to others you are writing, I still tend to say I'm a SAHM. I shall get stuck into my novel when Jem is away, but I know it always takes me a few days to settle down. I miss him like crazy. Mx

  5. Yes I loved Angela's Ashes but yes so sad. I bet you're missing Jem - you take care and keep writing. x

  6. I don't feel like being sad at the moment so I've passed the book to my mother first. She gets through about four novels a week!

Flowerpot I must admit I am getting more writing done without distraction. Getting all the cuddles from my little boy too as he is normally a Daddy's boy. Mx
